** Description changed: + ## FFe ## + This package is designed to allow co-installation of multiple major compiler versions, similar to vanilla clang/llvm in the Ubuntu archive. The versioned paths (e.g. /usr/bin/dpclang-6) already namespace correctly, but the package also ships unversioned binaries and man pages that would collide when two major versions are installed on the same host: Binaries (symlinks): /usr/bin/dpclang, /usr/bin/dpclang++, /usr/bin/dpclang-cpp, /usr/bin/dpclang-cl, /usr/bin/dpsycl-ls Man pages (real files): /usr/share/man/man1/dpclang.1.gz, /usr/share/man/man1/dpsycl-ls.1.gz Man pages (symlinks): /usr/share/man/man1/dpclang++.1.gz, /usr/share/man/man1/dpclang-cpp.1.gz, /usr/share/man/man1/dpclang-cl.1.gz These unversioned paths should be managed by update-alternatives (master link dpclang with the others as slaves, version-increasing priorities) so multiple compilers can co-install and users can select the default. Because a package-owned static symlink and an alternatives-managed link cannot safely share the same path, every co-installable version — including v6 — must adopt alternatives; hence this change is applied to v6 as well, not only to newer versions. + + A new source package for version 7 of the DPC++ compiler is being + prepared in a needs-packaging bug: + https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2164915 + + ## intel-umf vendoring ## + + intel-dpcpp is currently on upstream version 6.2.0, which will not build + against major version 1 of the intel-umf package that is being + introduced into stonking [1]. Therefore, this bug will also include + vendoring version 0.11.0 of intel-umf. + + ## Testing and validation ## + + Validation has included: + * Confirming the compiler builds, see the build in the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~kobuk-team/+archive/ubuntu/oneapi-compiler + * Autopkgtests pass on a 26.10 host equipped with an Intel GPU (see comments in [2]) + * Confirming a user can swap between major version 6 and 7 of the compiler using update-alternatives (see comments in [2]) + + [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-umf/+bug/2161026 + [2] https://code.launchpad.net/~kobuk-team/ubuntu/+source/intel-dpcpp/+git/intel-dpcpp/+merge/510136 + + ## Seeds + + $ seeded-in-ubuntu intel-dpcpp + intel-dpcpp's binaries are not seeded.
