Okay, installing xen-image-2.6.19-4-server has solved the problem. I am lucky that our lab has older hardware so it works okay (at this early stage of testing)
I'm presuming this bug wont get "fixed" as its likely to be "fixed" in Hardy. Unfortunatly, hardy wont meet university cut off for disk images for the Australian teaching semester.
