I think this only happens on computers with the latest nVidia GPUs (Geforce 8 series). All the people which is reporting here the bug, has an nvidia Geforce 8. Today, I popped in a LiveCD of Ubuntu 7.10 (64 bit) on a laptop with an ATI Radeon HD 2600, and it starts flawlessly. No "nosplash" hack. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200 18T (Serial Number: PSPB7E-00Q00HCE).
So I think that Saïvann Carignan is right, the problem should be in linux-restricted-modules. -- [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
