Public bug reported: My T14 Gen6 AMD had been in suspend mode for a few days. I opened the lid to resume the session, then opened Firefox. After a few seconds, it hanged there. I couldn't do anything but force stop the laptop.
I've attached the logs from the last boot (sudo journalctl -b-1). Note: This is a certified laptop: https://ubuntu.com/certified/202503-36567 Ubuntu version: 24.04 Linux kernel: 6.17.0-1023-oem From the logs, it looks like it's an amgpu problem: ``` May 31 20:05:07 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:07 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:07 T14 kernel: workqueue: amdgpu_tlb_fence_work [amdgpu] hogged CPU for >13333us 5 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND May 31 20:05:10 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:10 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:10 T14 kernel: workqueue: amdgpu_tlb_fence_work [amdgpu] hogged CPU for >13333us 7 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND May 31 20:05:13 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:13 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:14 T14 CRON[51547]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root(uid=0) by root(uid=0) May 31 20:05:14 T14 CRON[51548]: (root) CMD (command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-sa1 1 1) May 31 20:05:14 T14 CRON[51547]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for user root May 31 20:05:16 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:16 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:19 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:19 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:22 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:22 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:24 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:24 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:26 T14 syncthing[2276]: Established secure connection (device=UBACOQV connection.local=192.168.1.166:40272 connection.remote=192.168.27.65:22000 connection.type=tcp-client connection.lan=false connection.crypto=TLS1.3-TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 connection.prio=30 connection.id=65KN2DAKVIMECN4DPN1ISDRG30 log.pkg=connections) May 31 20:05:26 T14 syncthing[2276]: Additional device connection (device=UBACOQV address=192.168.27.65:22000 count=1 log.pkg=model) May 31 20:05:27 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:27 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:30 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:30 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:33 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM) May 31 20:05:33 T14 kernel: amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait May 31 20:05:33 T14 kernel: workqueue: amdgpu_tlb_fence_work [amdgpu] hogged CPU for >13333us 11 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND ``` ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: linux-image-6.17.0-1023-oem 6.17.0-1023.23 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.17.0-1023.23-oem 6.17.13 Uname: Linux 6.17.0-1023-oem x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.8 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun May 31 20:08:32 2026 InstallationDate: Installed on 2025-12-15 (167 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS "Noble Numbat" -
