I can also confirm this bug. I have experimented this bug both on my Athlon XP3500+ with ATI x850 and my old Intel Celeron @ 2.24Ghz with an Intel embedded graphics card.
The initial description of this bug fit very well with my experience. It is very embarrassing, I can not use any effect in impress, because I risk to freeze my presentation...
