Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image
Overview ======== I have been running Ubuntu Gutsy and recently bought 3 500gb drives (one PATA, two SATA) and a Silicon Image SATA controller to prepare a software RAID5 on my system for my server. It is also running Ubuntu gutsy and I have run into a bit of a knack. Problem ======= As you can see in the output from dmesg, the kernel seems to recognize the partitions on the drives correctly (hdb, sda, sdb; I keep spare partition to account for variance in space), but a.) there are no correspond SATA device nodes in /dev for the partitions, b.) there is information about them /sys either, c.) /dev/hdb and /dev/hdb1 seem to be mixed up; the former doesn't have volume information, but the latter does, and d.) my RAID5 does not assemble correctly any more on the server. Remarkably, the array works just fine on my desktop that I used to build the array. I will attach the outputs of lspci -vvv, dmesg, mdadm -E <my_drives>, and vol_id <my_drives> to assist in debugging this issue. ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- SATA drives' device nodes missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
