Public bug reported:

The Linux 7.0 kernel that ships with Ubuntu 26.04 has CONFIG_NOVA_CORE=m
when it should be disabled.

The NOVA_CORE driver (drivers/gpu/nova-core) is an early development GPU
driver that is non-functional but still binds to all Nvidia GPU PCI
devices that are Turing and later. That is, the driver will probe and
initialize the GPU, but has no other functionality. It is currently
under heavy development, but will not be a viable driver until 2027 at
the earliest.

The current configuration for the 7.0 kernel enables CONFIG_NOVA_CORE
and CONFIG_DRM_NOVA. Both drivers should be disabled.

The Kconfig for NOVA_CORE even defaults to n to avoid this exact
problem, and the Help page tells you that the driver might be non-
functional:

config NOVA_CORE
        tristate "Nova Core GPU driver"
        depends on 64BIT
        depends on PCI
        depends on RUST
        select AUXILIARY_BUS
        select RUST_FW_LOADER_ABSTRACTIONS
        default n
        help
Choose this if you want to build the Nova Core driver for Nvidia
GPUs based on the GPU System Processor (GSP). This is true for Turing
          and later GPUs.

This driver is work in progress and may not be functional.

If M is selected, the module will be called nova_core.

There was no reason for Canonical to believe that this driver should be
enabled.
