I've upgraded to Hardy and have not had this problem since. For what it's worth, I'm still really disappointed that it got totally dropped and neglected while I had to deal with it day after day. I don't know what I should have done to get this bug more press, but it was a very frustrating one for me. Hopefully it does not surface again with the new kernel.
