FYI: I updated apt-cacher-ng 4 days ago from v3.6 (3.6.4-1) to v3.7
(3.7.5-1), and within those 4 days I managed to get 80 hanging apt-gets
again. This problem is still very real.

That is for most people that don't have a broken repository (cache) in
the mix. Those that do can easily go down to 90% success rate. (And
don't forget, once it fails, it never succeeds again without manual
intervention.)

I'll applaud any fix that stops the infinite hang, even if it's a
watchdog that kicks in first after 3600 seconds.
