Dear Canonical Team,
I would like to submit a wishlist feature request regarding the Ubuntu
desktop experience, specifically for systems running GNOME on Wayland
(such as Ubuntu 24.04).
At present, the default clipboard behavior only preserves the most
recent copied item. While functional for basic use, this limitation
impacts productivity for users who regularly work with multiple copied
elements such as commands, code snippets, links, structured text, or
images.
I would like to suggest the development of a native clipboard history
tool integrated directly into Ubuntu’s desktop environment. Ideally,
this feature could resemble the functionality provided by modern
clipboard managers such as Pano or Copyous, offering:
* a clean and elegant interface
* fast popup access via keyboard shortcut
* support for multiple clipboard entries
* optional image support
* consistent Wayland compatibility
* visual design aligned with GNOME’s minimalist and distraction-free philosophy
A built-in implementation maintained by the platform would ensure
reliability, security, and seamless integration without requiring third-
party extensions, which currently face compatibility and maintenance
limitations.
This request is being submitted as a **wishlist-bug** because it is not
reporting a defect, but proposing an enhancement that could
significantly improve workflow efficiency and user experience for many
Ubuntu users, especially developers and technical professionals.
