Did a lot of investigation with the help of EVANCHU.   The details of

Basically, I think  FIRESTARTER tweaked the iptables somehow on the
first run and locked out SAMBA as a default.  Allowing SAMBA service
"for everyone" and turning off the firewall solved the problem.

BUT, on a public network I don't think this is a secure solution.  Is
there a better way?
