Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org
OpenOffice crashes due to an extreme memory leak when I use a page background image. Steps to reproduce: 1) Write a document, watch top (Xorg and soffice.bin memory usage stay in normal range) 2) Apply a page background image that covers the whole page (e.g. 72 dpi PNG for the whole page) 3) Scroll around, add some paragraphs.... watch top: Xorg memory usage increases by 5 MB for each new line! Scrolling a few pages up&down increases memory use by 300 MB 4) Computer begins to swap and Xorg becomes unusable. Only solution: killall -9 soffice.bin / Xorg from SSH This bug does not appear when using a JPEG background image! Bug appears with at least these OpenOffice versions, both from Ubuntu 7.10: * AMD64: openoffice.org-core 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3, Tue Nov 27 19:01:17 GMT 2007 * i386: openoffice.org-core 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3, Tue Nov 27 18:52:42 GMT 2007 I can give you the document/images if you need them to reproduce the bug.
