I just wanted to inform you that I've solved the problem with my system not booting properly and the not starting gnome session. In my case it was a problem with the previously (and manually) installed ndiswrapper - I removed it and built it against the new kernel and everythings is working fine now. Sorry for the possible trouble I've caused here and thanks for your help ;-).
