Public bug reported: Hi everyone,
I'm running into some permission issues with abcde on Ubuntu when ripping CDs. I can get it to work, but only by running it with sudo. The problem is that when I run abcde as root, the output files are created with root ownership, and I’m unable to move or modify them as my regular user. Here’s some relevant output: will@prometheus:~$ ls -l /dev/sr* brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 Mar 31 08:43 /dev/sr0 I'm a member of the cdrom group (confirmed via the groups command). I've also tried adding an /etc/fstab entry to set the proper mount options for the CD-ROM (e.g., noauto, owner,ro,users), but it seems that for abcde to read the CD, I still have to run it with sudo. I don't think I should have to mount it at all considering I'm only reading. I'm using a command like this: OUTPUTDIR="/home/will/Music/Rips" sudo abcde -d /dev/sr0 -o wav -a read, encode, tag, move, clean -B -Q musicbrainz While this successfully rips the CD, all resulting files are owned by root. I’d prefer to run abcde as my regular user so that file ownership remains with me, and I can easily manage and move the files afterward. Are there any known workarounds—perhaps adjustments to udev rules or modifications in the abcde configuration—that can allow abcde to access the CD-ROM and rip CDs without requiring root privileges? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
