I also had this error on Debian when executing the command "tsocks bash", 
followed by "sudo apt update" (which fails to use tsocks) or "sudo tsocks apt 
update" (which uses tsocks successfully).
The error seems to mean something was not done correctly (in my case because 
the command tsocks was executed before sudo due to the "tsocks bash" command) 
but I think it can be ignored if what we wanted is done correctly.
However the error does not happen if we use proxychains instead of tsocks.
