Public bug reported: On Ubuntu Noble (24.04), using Wayland with Intel Iris Xe graphics (Raptor Lake-P), the GNOME Shell graphical interface randomly freezes, crashes, and forces logout. All running applications close without warning. This frequently occurs while browsing (Chrome/Firefox), but it has also happened without heavy system load. Switching to Xorg session significantly reduces or eliminates the crashes. Steps to reproduce:
Log into Ubuntu Wayland session on a system with Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Raptor Lake-P). Open browser applications (Chrome or Firefox) and use normally. Wait until graphical session freezes/crashes (usually within minutes or hours of usage). Symptoms: Graphical interface freezes abruptly. Session immediately ends, and user is forced back to login screen. No visible error dialog upon crash.
