What was happening was that an email from eBay with links to items on 
eBay ALWAYS had both the & character in the link AND the four characters 
amp;

Naturally, eBay could not find the item as the URL was incorrect.

Manual edit of the URL in Firefox to remove the four characters amp; 
would then allow eBay to locate the item.

I have no idea how I can make it a simpler description without holding 
your hand and using one syllable words!!!

The required solution was to dump Evolution and switch to Thunderbird. 
No further problem so that tells me that Evolution was the source of the 
error probably due to font issues.
