Hello! Re-visiting this one.
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/matrix-synapse - looks like the old bug
is fixed(!?) and it's currently in testing and set to be in Trixie. So
I'll close this bug. But if this is removed in Debian again, i'm happy
to act on this and remove it from plucky, too.
