I have created a 'wishlist' bug in the Debian BTS to reinstate these tools in an optional package:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1095490 But this will _not_ solve the question of tracking failed logins because they are not likely to get stored in the old files in future, so this would only help for querying OLD log files. I think we are advised to look in other log files to track failed logins and indeed that btmp wasn't a reliable way of tracking all failed authentication attempts anyway. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #1095490 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1095490 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2084854 Title: last and lastb missing in 24.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/2084854/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
