I have a generic kubuntu 7.10 install w/ nvidia proprietary drivers. I am not running gcompriz/beryl. My box drops to console and then to kdm login.
This happens only when I load nomachine's free linux version and logs into a remote host(X). As long as I don't change desktops on the local machine(Y), everything is stable. The second I switch from the local virtual desktop to another local virtual desktop the whole thing drops. It didn't happen in 7.04. It doesn't happen when I am sitting in from of the remote host(X) and using nomachine to get to the above local machine (Y). They both were installed from the same CD. They both are using the nvidia drivers. They both should roughly have the same drivers/software.
