OK, the new card from Aliexpress, an CMI8738 based PCIexp, has arrived. Could not plug it in my PCIx4 slot (a chip in the middle) so I had to use a PCI full slot...ok, nothing else needed inside my PC... Ubuntu 24.04 started, recognized the card and use it as a primary: we have SOUND. So end of the story...for me. Still the problem with a perfectly working (on up to 18.04) SB on the MB remain...
