Public bug reported: In the documentation page for "Print a booklet on a double-sided printer", https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/printing-booklet- duplex.html.en, the guidance given does not work if a PDF is opened in the default Ubuntu 24.04 Document Viewer [and if the user has the HPLIP Toolbox installed for HP printers].
Point 5 says "Choose the Page Layout tab" - this is not present in the Print dialogue options, so the instructions for booklet printing need updating. It is still possible to print an A5 booklet on A4 paper, but a different route through the print options is needed: Under point 2. on the doc page, change "Click the Properties… button" to "Click the Page Setup tab" "In the Orientation drop-down list, make sure that Landscape is selected" to "In the Orientation drop-down list, make sure that Portrait is selected". Delete the current point 5. and replace with "Under the Page Setup tab, under "Pages per side:" choose 2. In fact, that could go under point 2. and remove point 5. completely. As long as the n,1,2,n-1,n-2 etc. page order is entered correctly, it is then possible to print an A5 booklet on A4 paper using a double-sided printer. I can't tell if this only applies to the print dialogue when the HPLIP Toolbox is installed for HP networked printers, or if it applies to vanilla installs of Ubuntu 24.04 as well, as I only see the options described in this bug report.
