Public bug reported: On some systems foreign apt-repositories are used, e.g. for Google Chrome.
do-release-upgrade disables these foreign source entries, provides a message that this has happened and requires to press the Enter key afterwards. Stopping to update a browser creates a security issue. Messages which just require pressing the enter key may easily be disregarded and after a lengthy update process and the necessary reboot are easily forgotten. We should prominently highlight the manual rework that is needed: At the very end of the update process we could provide a message in a highlight color that points to necessary manual rework listing all changed source files. We should further reconsider why we automatically deactivate source entries which are not related to the upgraded release. E.g. the Google Chrome source list entry contains no reference to any of our releases: Enabled: yes Types: deb URIs: https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ Suites: stable Components: main ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Plucky) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Plucky) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2092937 Title: ubuntu-release-upgrader does not highlight deactivation of foreign apt sources To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/2092937/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
