Public bug reported: [ Impact ]
* The current 0.2 version of libcamera in Noble doesn't support newer hardware. We will need improvements from the 0.3 series as a basis to get working a camera on new Intel and AMD laptops and to be able to enable the PI5 camera. * The upgrade include substantial changes to the codebase and a soname update, it is not compliant to standard SRU guideline but needed for hardware enablement reasons. We will need to rebuild pipewire and gnome- snapshot with the new soname. * The regression potential should be limited by the fact that libcamera is a new piece of infrastructure and only used by gnome-snapshot in the Noble archive. [ Test Plan ] * We will follow those testplans on a variety of hardware with the help of the OEM team https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GnomeSnapshot https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/Libcamera https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/Pipewire [ Where problems could occur ] * The update includes a soname change which could lead to upgrade issues (packages on hold or removed for example). * Pipewire will need to be rebuild so we should verify that there is no regression in its webcam support after the upgrade [ Other Info ] * We will likely need to SRU further changes for newer AMD hardware and PI5 support, this SRU is going to be used as a basis for those future improvements. ** Affects: libcamera (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Sebastien Bacher (seb128) Status: In Progress ** Changed in: libcamera (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: libcamera (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: libcamera (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Sebastien Bacher (seb128) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2092060 Title: [SRU] Update libcamera to 0.3.2 for new hardware support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libcamera/+bug/2092060/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
