Also affects me on ubuntu (gnome). The outcome of the crash is variable. It sometimes crash to a black screen, sometimes to a frozen screen, sometimes with colors squares on the screen. Sometimes without any recovery possible, sometimes REISUB allow rebooting the system, sometimes it recover by itself.
I tried installing amd-gpu pro, same behavior. I wiped out the while system to install kubuntu (kde).
