Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu MATE Noble 24.04.1. With kernel 6.8, moving mouse cursor
toward lower right corner of screen causes screen to black out for several
seconds. When system suspends, manually or automatically, it dies, and I need
to cold-boot it. With kernel 5.15 there are no problems.
This bug is similar to Bugs #2072973, 2086587, 2080693, and possibly also
2059738, 2064017, 2065005.
It seems to be related to the CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON switch in the
/boot/config-6.8.0-49-generic file. When this switch =y, the i915 subsystem
encounters the error:
i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun
and the screen problems appear. When I comment out this switch or set it =n,
the system starts up OK, but after some time has elapsed, this error message
appears in the dmesg log, and the problems come back. This can happen after a
few minutes, or if the OS is suspended, after an hour or more.
I use a VGA monitor. The above error message reappears after every change of
display resolution, from 1920 x 1080 all the way down to 640 x 480 and 720 x
400.
