Today the system got stuck during shutdown, showing a message of pending update. However it was in fact stuck waiting for the NetworkManager to respond.
A few times before I noticed the battery was completely discharged after I had shut the system down. Now it seems the system stays on overnight waiting for the NetworkManager, until power runs out. This is not very healthy for the battery. Any hints on how to deal with this bug are most welcome.
