I have just created an account on Ubuntu only to add my voice to this
issue. I've been using Unix for over 30 years and generally delete
anything that doesn't grok the basics of the platform. Unfortunately, I
can't delete snap because it's tightly coupled into Ubuntu. So please
please please get your storage out of my home directory's top level. If
you can't be bothered to respect your users by default, then make it a
config option up in /etc or something.

My next few steps will involve looking into whether I can use flatpak;
then, moving away from Ubuntu. I like Ubuntu studio for music but am
willing to put in the time to find something else. Just like I'm willing
to put in the time to modify a configuration. Please let me.
