The message display is asynchronous, if it really is the fix then being able to wait for it would be good, but it seems such a hack. Even with 2s it doesn't work all the time. I can not understand why this is so hard ... the font really looks like it is in the initramfs ... I can see it. shutdown is apparently a twilight zone.
