That patch is wrong; generally the [0] argument can also be --; one has
to patch the code inserting the gnome-terminal.real to read:

        if not self.args or self.args[0] == "--":
            self.args.insert(0, "/usr/bin/gnome-terminal.real")

That being said, --app-id and --class still do not work; all windows get
grouped under Terminal instead of my custom weechat desktop file (I also
patched out the prefix such that it actually uses org.weechat.weechat
instead of com.canonical.Terminal.org.weechat.weechat.
