I may have been too hasty above. Apparently Core may no longer rely on u-boot either. I've reset the tags pending further investigation. If Core does indeed not require u-boot, we'll still need some means of determining that the change leaves u-boot operable (for anybody actually using it in practice, although it's not supported on Classic images). If that's the case, I'll update the second part of the verification instructions accordingly.
