After running the commands that @juliank recommended on 2 Sep and fixing
the errors I received and posted above, I ended up in a situation where
the UI didn't work. I couldn't log on to the terminal either. It
requested my password, and I introduced it, but I got in a loop. After
validating the password and giving a success message, it asked for the
password again.

I didn't know how to fix this situation. Fortunately, I had a backup
copy of the disk. So, I decided to install Ubuntu 24 from a pen drive
formatted with the corresponding ISO file. See "Install Ubuntu desktop"

It is not an optimal solution, and it may not be an option if you cannot
back up everything. But it worked for me.
