Jean-Paul, try this :
Run live CD
Switch to a terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1) and run the following commands :
fuser /dev/snd/*
This command should something like that :
/dev/snd/controlC0:   NNNN
Then type :
kill NNNN
cat /proc/modules|cut -f1 -d" "|grep snd|xargs sudo rmmod
lsmod|grep snd
This command should output nothing. then type :
sudo modprobe snd_hda_intel
Finally, switch back to XWindows (CTRL+ALT+F7)
You should have a message about reloading sound applet : Reload it.
Test if the sound works.
