Hello and thanks for this bug report. Looks like the systemd unit is installed with --no-enable:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/cyrus- sasl2/-/commit/63049ec3efd36bd0dfdde349298f103419a906eb This is the same that was done with the init script, but AIUI the fact that you enabled the initd service is not inherited by the systemd unit when they are installed. Once they are there, the old settings do not count anymore, and a manual `enable` is needed. Does this match your understanding of the issue? Implementing such mechanism sounds easy but it isn't really. We should look for prior art. In the meantime, let's try to confirm that my idea is correct.
