Sorry for the amount of info.  I tried to be concise, but perhaps I was
too concise.

The 6.5 based kernels for mantic (23.01) and jammy (22.04) are at the
end of their support.  The 1024 jammy 6.5 kernel contains only security
updates.

This is the changelog of the 22.04 6.5 kernel:

The 1024 entry is at the top of the file.  It only contains security
fixes.  This will be the last 6.5 kernel for jammy.  The images using
6.5 will be moved to 6.8 during the regular kernel updating process.

As for not needing this in the 24.04 6.8 kernel, I checked the code, and
the fix wasn't applied until 6.11, so even through the error isn't
reproducable the issue exists in the 6.8 kernel.
