a) after updating, I need to hard power off the ubuntu device and power on in 
order to reboot
b) during boot process, the monitor displays momentarily and then goes dark
c) once boot load complete, I can connect to my ubuntu devices from another 
computer on LAN via SSH
d) doing 'sudo shutdown -P now' does not power off the ubuntu device
