Are you sure you have an AR5006 and not an AR5007EG? While my lspci is claiming I have the AR5006 chipset, I am fairly sure that this is a bug and I have the AR5007EG chipset (that is how it is identified in windows, plus there have been other reports of this).
Besides that I have the same issue. I am using ndiswrapper on the same chipset and while I can see wireless networks, I cannot obtain a DHCP lease on any of my WAP's regardless of the encryption on the wireless. WPA, WEP, and open all fail the same way. According to Network Monitor, I am sending and recieving packets, but I am not obtaining a DHCP lease and I have seen from the forums that many others have this problem. I have heard that this setup worked in Feisty, but broke in the 7.10 release (I wouldn't know, having only gotten my Atheros chipset recently).
