From your logs, I see:

code 255: Missing privilege separation directory: /run/sshd

Have you manually removed that directory?

Could you provide more information about your setup? e.g., could you
share that default configuration file you mentioned (please be careful
not to leak any sensitive information).

I am marking this as incomplete. Once you provide additional
information, please, set this bug status back to new.
