Similar behavior on Kubuntu with guidance-power-manager on an HP
Pavailion DV6000T.

Closing screen can cause the backlight to shut-off altogether. Noting
that the brightness level per guidance-power-manager is 0.

Setting the brightness levels in guidance-power-manager makes the
brightness change... but that does not make use of the brightness
buttons (Fn-F7/F8 for this box). When I unplug the machine, the screen
dims to where the BIOS thinks it should be for battery-power (as set by
the Fn-F7/F8 keys the last time on battery). As soon as the "Switching
to battery mode." knotify message comes up, the brightness changes
again....

Killing guidance-power-manager does *not* fix the problem for me
however...

Can I shut off the power-manager handling of these events? and can I
get the Fn-keys to work again? This all worked in Feisty. I just
rebuilt the box onto a new hard drive this weekend. Mostly a good
upgrade, but this is not good.
