Hello, The error Error: [Errno 40] Too many levels of symbolic links: '/etc/mysql/my.cnf' is actually an error with the reporting system and not your configuration. In your error.log I see: 2022-05-06T09:06:19.538330Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010262] [Server] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use 2022-05-06T09:06:19.538357Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010257] [Server] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ? This matches the error that appeared in the following bug that is currently being worked on: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1921378 For that reason I will mark this as a duplicate. If you think this is incorrect please let us know. Also if you have any additional information on how you set up your system please write a comment in the other bug. Thanks! ** Summary changed: - package mysql-server 8.0.29-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: [Errno 40] Too many levels of symbolic links: '/etc/mysql/my.cnf' + Error: [Server] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1921378 mysql server crashes with port 3306 already in use -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971964 Title: Error: [Server] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1971964/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
