i had this problem also. I managed to fix by purging esound, esound-clients, pulsaaudio-module-gconf and pulseaudio. After that I gave the computer a hard reset and ... as if by miracle, IT WORKS. Minor detail: after I've read through the comments here, I installed the programs mentioned above and after that flash videos had no sound, although mp3 and avis worked. So I thought to remove those programs and here we are, everything is working. I still get that error message but I really don't care since it works.
