I guess if systemd-oomd is getting installed by default, this bug is obsolete. But note that it looks like systemd-oomd only works with GNOME and KDE for now. In other desktops and environments like Sway that don't launch applications in cgroups will get the whole session killed if there's memory pressure. So some users may be prefer to install earlyoom.
