The "echo -n VALUE > /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness" does not work on my Vostro 1000 on Ubuntu 7.10 64bit. It gives "bash: /proc/.../brightness: Permission denied". If I do "cat /proc/.../brightness" it gives:
