I support this "fix" because it makes sense with Ubuntu's "it just works" goals. apt-get install i8kutils isn't terribly useful when the configuration and auto-startup of i8k are far more onerous than its installation. There are a ton of Dell laptops out there that benefit from i8k, and fan noise can be very annoying to home users (like me).
Also, I've found adding the i8kutils file alone though doesn't enable auto-startup of i8kmon. I know that for one thing, in /etc/modules, i8k must be added to the list. I can't figure out how to actually have the i8kutils script executed on boot though. -- Auto starting and respawning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/79680 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
