I just got the ipw2200 working on an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG. I'm
running the Ubuntu 7.10 (Oct.2007) Live-CD on a Dell Inspiron 6000. At
first, the device did not work at all. There are two BIOS settings for
the wireless device. For me they were set to disable the wireless
device on start-up, and enable the FN+F2 hot key. This wasn't working
for me, although it didn't help that the LED never lit, so I didn't know
the on/off state. Anyway, I changed the BIOS settings (F2 on start-up),
to enable wireless device on start up, and to enable application control
which also disables the Fn+F2 hardware hotkey. The wireless worked
automatically upon booting Linux. I just had to click the network icon
in the upper right and connect.
