You mention 'we are actively working on a fix' but to anyone following
this bug and at this moment and there are going to be an increase in
Thunderbird users, we notice this bug is marked as 'New' and it looks
like no one has been assigned to fix it and there is nothing about when
a fix is expected as a target.

This implies no developer is working on it at this moment and there is no
action - whether that is true or not is not the point. That is what is
perceived by the lack of documentation.
This bug is also where users get information on progress, but are seeing
nothing and after 13 years you cannot blame users for wondering what is going
on and why this bug still exists.

If someone is already working on this, it would be helpful to
communicate this and let people know this bug did have someone assigned
to work on it and what version the planned fix will be expected for
release.

There have been comments suggesting no one should ask for a 'please fix'
as it may stop developers working on it, but outsider users are being
polite in trying to explain how important this bug is when it comes to
work throughput for individuals and businesses alike.

I would be appalled if developers were actually choosing to deliberately
not work on a bug just because there has been so many desperate users
wondering why something as important as this bug appears to still be new
and no one assigned etc.

This issue is a real problem in Thunderbird where opening of a variety of email
attachments is extremely common.
Emails by their nature are a means of conveying and communicating documention
in various formats.
This bug has also started to see more recent reports since TB version 91*.

This is a polite request for information and update.
