I've been following this 'broke item' for some time and have also submitted a couple tickets related to same. Albeit was amazed when someone tied my ticket to this 13-year old item. Never would have thought that could have happened.
As many have noted the 'choose file open' item WAS working just fine until sometime last later spring/early summer. Don't see how something that WAS working and then became broke has turned into a 13-year old problem that someone/somewhere says will NOT be fixed. Just how stupid is that? Anyway ... in the meantime, while waiting for a repair I've become aware of a soft fork of Thunderbird that is called Betterbird. And, BTW, the File Open situation has been repaired.
