I used a * in my password. After the installer crashes twice in advanced mode, I switched to beginner or whatever the other option is and it worked fine.
I formatted one preexisting linux parttion for / used swap that was already there created mount points for 3 windows partitions set Time to PST enabled vnc, mythremote and set passwords for each. (I used an & for mysql, but all alphanumeric for vnc) all plugins were enabled I think that's about it.
