** Description changed:

+ This is the first bug i file, so please bear with my inexperience :)
+
nvidia-340 kernel modules are not compatibile with the latest linux
- kernel (5.1* series). So when ubuntu-drivers-common detects and installs
- the nvidia-340 drivers it should also install the latest compatible
- kernel version of the linux 5.4 series.
+ kernel (5.1* series, which are default in the latest 20.04 point
+ releases and following ubuntu releases). So when ubuntu-drivers-common
+ detects and installs the nvidia-340 drivers it should also install the
+ latest compatible kernel version of the linux 5.4 series.
+
+ This happened to me when trying to install ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on an old
+ macbook 6,1 (white unibody macbook). Driver manager suggested nvidia-340
+ for my machine, but installation failed when building kernel modules
+ were incompatibile with the latest linux kernel.
+
+ I solved the problem by manually running sudo apt-install --install-
+ recommends linux-generic and by rebooting on an older version of the
+ kernel
