I can confirm this as this issue occurs for me as well. I connect to Internet using pppoe via a Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] 79c978 [HomePNA] card, configured with the option homepna = 1. The connection is configured using pppoeconf and works as intended in most cases. The problem is that nm-applet is showing that NetworkManager is not connected to any network (even though it works fine using firefox, apt-get etc).
I can start and stop the connection correctly from the "Dial up connections" options in nm-applet. The big issue is that applications such as Pidgin and Evolution does not recognize that I'm connected to internet and therefore not start up correctly. In the case of Pidgin the message "Available waiting for network connection" is shown and no contacts are shown until I re-enable the accounts. The problem in Evolution is that it is always started in offline mode, and therefore does not check for mail until I have set the application in online mode. I use Ubuntu 7.10 installed from alternate version. All applications installed from the repositories. -- no network connection when using wvdial, pon, gnome-ppp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
